Photo Share – Around The Pier

The sunrise wasn’t as awesome this morning as I had hoped, so I changed things up by using a B+W 10 stop ND filter. It’s amazing how a 30 second exposure can totally change the look and feel of a photograph! This one is pretty similar to one I shot last year at Sunset Beach in North Carolina, but I’m liking this one a little better. However both of them have been awarded 🙂  http://www.viewbug.com/photo/3948351

Tybee Island Lighthouse Mid Day

No tripods allowed sir! You’re going to have to either leave that with us or take it to your car…. The dreaded words!

I can understand not up in the lighthouse maybe, but come on give me a break. Anyway if you plan to visit the Tybee Island Lighthouse leave the tripod in the car. It’s no use to argue with the lady at the ticket booth, it will get you nowhere… So this photograph was taken about mid day as I was going up into the lighthouse, nothing fancy, no fancy post processing ( other than to remove the people standing in my way) I really wish I had updated the firmware on my Sony NEX-5N before this trip or even put it in my bag for that matter. I can shoot handheld HDR’s with it fairly well I have recently found out… like the last photograph I posted “Sunset Through The Purple Vetch” handheld 3 exposures while lying on my belly.

Wanted to share a coastal themed picture to get me in gear for my trip next weekend to the coast of North Carolina…. OBX here we come! I can’t wait to wake up early in the morning to grab those awesome sunrises on the beach and the late evening sunsets at the many lighthouses, piers, and marina’s. Stay tuned plenty of photographs to come!  Oh and the NEX will be in my camera bag!

Pastel Sunset – Tybee Island, GA

One of my favorite things to photograph are sunsets, there’s always that chance of surprise. It’s kind of like you never know what you’re going to get, sometimes they are exploding with color and light. Then other times they are just kind of drab and lack luster but no two are ever the same. This was a sunset I photographed during my trip to Savannah Georgia earlier this year. I’m getting kind of excited since I’ve got another coastal trip coming up in just a few weeks, this time it’s to the Outer Banks, NC.  I absolutely love photographing coastal areas… lighthouses, the beach, wildlife, it seems you can’t go wrong!  What’s your favorite things to photograph at the beach?

Shine On! HDR + Topaz Clarity

Today’s photograph takes us back to my trip to Georgia a few weeks back, this sunset was one of the best during the trip and I took many shots from different angles and compositions.  I decided to edit this one last night using Photomatix, Photoshop and Topaz Labs plug-ins. First I took the 5 exposures from my Canon 6D  and ran them through Photomatix then, imported them to Photoshop and used Topaz Clarity to enhance the overall contrast. Next I used Topaz Detail to bring out a little bit more of the details in the image this was mostly seen in the sun rays. After that I used Topaz adjust to make minor adjustments to the color by starting with a preset then dialing it down just a bit.

Let me know what you think!

Spring Is On The Way!

Well I at least hope so… Next weekend my family and I will be visiting Savannah, GA for the first time.  My camera gear and I are hoping for nice blue skies, warm temps and we would even possibly allow one thunderstorm.  I have been doing some research on spots to visit and that list continues to grow from lighthouses, churches, piers, forts, the list goes on and on.  My plan is to capture as many as possible some during the day and others at night, of course I will be posting a few photographs during the week 🙂 to give you guys a sneak peek of my travels.

Here’s a photograph I took this week using a slightly different approach from my normal Floral Photography. I took this using a Canon 17-40mm F4L lens and 13mm extension tube using my Canon 6D.  If you use anything larger than the 13mm extension tube you will have problems focusing the lens. But the result was a daffodil that is just in your face because the flower is filling pretty much the whole frame.
