 Happy Thanksgiving

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!  I’m very thankful for all of the supporters of my photography, my family and friends!  I would also like to take the time to thank all of the kind people who have helped me along the way of my photographic journey.  Some of these are  Trey Ratcliff   (Stuck In Customs),  Scott Kublin   (HDR Photography Blog),  Varina Patel   (Photography By Varina), Curtis Warwick  (Really Nice Light),   Jon Beard  (JonBeard.com) and the whole Exposure Roanoke Group!

Photo Share – “Burn Off”

This one was taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway here in Virginia a few weeks back on a cold and windy morning. I absolutely love landscape photography! There’s just something about getting to a spot, setting up your gear and waiting for the sun to pop up over the horizon that just never gets old!

 Smoky Mountain Colors

This year my fall trip to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was a mixture of fun and photography! The weather was excellent unlike last year when fog took over for just about the whole trip and made for some blah colors. This year with the help of mother nature the colors were top notch and the air was clear for me to capture them. There are so many beautiful spots in the park that I have a hard time picking spots to photograph. I took this one on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail which I found to be full of spots including waterfalls, old structures and houses and of course the beautiful water. My personal favorite spot to stay during my journey is Wilderness at the Smokies, which combines a water park, golf courses and indoor fun center.

Back From Georgia :)

Hey guys I’m back from Georgia, the week went by way too fast… But no worries I captured lots of photographs to share of my journey.  I have spent the last two evenings sorting through the 2,000 photographs to pick which ones need to be edited and shared. Some of you may wonder how I store my photographs and keep up with them all…. Well on a trip  I usually pack one or two portable hard drives which I download the pictures from my camera to the drives (1TB LaCie Rugged) and another copy on my laptop.  Then once I’m at home I use Lightroom 4 to catalog all of them, the ones to edit I give 4 stars too and the ones that are completed get 5 stars, my smart categories pull these into folders where I can view the ones to edit or post.

The Sun Setting Over The Hill

Just Another Sunset

I had a great time with the Exposure Roanoke group on a photo walk at the Greenfield Center in Botetourt,VA. The theme for the walk was bird photography,  as we walked around the lake we identified birds and took some photographs. But before long my eyes left the bird scene and began to wonder around the landscape. The rolling hills made for some different photographs and I captured a few that I think are worth sharing. Below is one of the sun setting just behind the tree over the hill. This was a 7exp bracket using my Canon 6D which was then edited in Photomatix Pro (my favorite HDR software), Lightroom, Photoshop, and Topaz Adjust. This also was a good test for my new tripod from 3 Legged Thing so far I like it. 🙂

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

By | Canon T2i, Landscapes, Photography, Tennessee | No Comments

So I had the oppurtunity to take two trips last year to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, to capture the amazing beauty of the moutains, views, creeks and nature. I spent hours just in the miles and miles of creeks and streams in the park, it seemed every half mile I spotted something that I wanted to get a better look at and photograph. There are a number of HDR photographs I’ve uploaded to my portfolio from the two trips and I’ve still got more to process. I found this one to be interesting and  just had that cool feel to it, it was taken in low light close to dark using a long exposure and processed using IR.

Smoky Mountains…. Man they weren’t joking

By | Landscapes, Photography, Tennessee | No Comments

So I recently took a trip to the Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee to photograph the fall colors in the mountains, but mother nature obviously wanted to make it harder than it really needed to be. Both days were filled with dense fog, rain and the temperatures hovered around the 50-40 degree range. I was determined to take pictures though and that I did…. Were they the quality images I was hoping to get?  Let me know what you guys think!
