 Smoky Mountain Colors

This year my fall trip to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was a mixture of fun and photography! The weather was excellent unlike last year when fog took over for just about the whole trip and made for some blah colors. This year with the help of mother nature the colors were top notch and the air was clear for me to capture them. There are so many beautiful spots in the park that I have a hard time picking spots to photograph. I took this one on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail which I found to be full of spots including waterfalls, old structures and houses and of course the beautiful water. My personal favorite spot to stay during my journey is Wilderness at the Smokies, which combines a water park, golf courses and indoor fun center.

Shooting Multiple Exposures Canon 6D

I just got my Canon 6D back from Canon Professional Services and I have to say the level of service I received was even better than I expected! The repairs were done super fast the communication was spot on and they fixed my camera under warranty for free! Once I had the camera back I wanted to go out and test it right away so I took a trip up to Mill Mountain in Roanoke, VA and decided to shoot a multiple exposure image, first shot was the star then turned around and positioned this star over the city below. Editing was very simple adjusted the blacks slightly in Lightroom and did some cleanup to remove a sign on the lower left in Photoshop CC. (Note to self remember to check the settings in your camera after repairs… mine was set back to jpg and not raw)

Photographing Downtown Roanoke, VA

This past Sunday I had the pleasure to walk around and photograph the city of Roanoke, VA with some members from Exposure Roanoke.  Exposure Roanoke is a local meetup group who host numerous events for photographers of all skill levels, from hikes to photographing people in need. If you’re interested in photography you should definitely check them out!

My Canon 6D is off to CPS for repairs…. so for this walk I was using my trusty Canon T2i, which by the way I just replaced with a Canon 60D this week (thanks to B&H Photo for the awesome deal! *body only $599 until Aug 31st*)    I might miss the old camera… it’s the one I cut my teeth on and learned after so many mistakes and not once did it let me down….

Darkness Falls Over The Sound

I’m back from my week long trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the trip was wonderful! I captured some amazing images, now it’s time to process all those images and share them all. 🙂

This is one I took over the Roanoke Sound just after sunset it’s a long exposure (30 seconds) taken at a pretty high ISO (3200) using my Canon 6D.  I love the colors and the mood of this photo, plus there are the stars in the upper right corner, the reflections in the water.

I’ve decided to add some of the photo’s from this trip to my eBook “Photographing Bodies Of Water” the book will be released in the near future. The book is a story of my journeys and trips photographing different parts of the coast, rivers, streams, ponds and lakes. Along the way in the book I give tips to beginners looking to improve their photography, tips like gear selection, tips on composing photographs and post processing tips.

Spring Is On The Way!

Well I at least hope so… Next weekend my family and I will be visiting Savannah, GA for the first time.  My camera gear and I are hoping for nice blue skies, warm temps and we would even possibly allow one thunderstorm.  I have been doing some research on spots to visit and that list continues to grow from lighthouses, churches, piers, forts, the list goes on and on.  My plan is to capture as many as possible some during the day and others at night, of course I will be posting a few photographs during the week 🙂 to give you guys a sneak peek of my travels.

Here’s a photograph I took this week using a slightly different approach from my normal Floral Photography. I took this using a Canon 17-40mm F4L lens and 13mm extension tube using my Canon 6D.  If you use anything larger than the 13mm extension tube you will have problems focusing the lens. But the result was a daffodil that is just in your face because the flower is filling pretty much the whole frame.
