Playing In The Ocean

This year during vacation I ventured out into the ocean about knee deep with my Induro Tripod and Canon 60D fitted with the 70-200mm and shot wave after wave as they rolled in. It was a lot of fun trying to capture both the beauty of nature and the power of the ocean. I tried many different shutter speeds from .5 second to 1/60th trying to blend both the motion and stopping time at that perfect moment. I found this to be very therapeutic and calming even though having your camera gear in the mighty ocean would have frightened me to death a few years ago.

A Visit To Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island Is The Place To Be

I finally made it over on to Bald Head Island! Before this trip to the North Carolina coast the closest I had been to Bald Head Island was just across the water on Oak Island. Some of you may have seen the photograph I took from here looking over at Old Baldy. The island is full of beautiful scenery and you get to rent golf carts to ride around in for the day! It has a nice quiet feel complete with beautiful beaches, nature trails, great restaurants and fun for everyone. I can’t wait for my next visit to the island there are still a few things I’d like to do like kayak all the marshes close to the boat house and photograph the birds.

Now here’s a shot I took from the West End of the island of Old Baldy.

Looking Up At Currituck Lighthouse

Photographing lighthouses can sometimes be a challenge especially when they are swarming with tourists! Just like this photograph yes you can see some tourists who climbed to the top of the Currituck Lighthouse but at the base there were probably 50 -100 more waiting their turn.  I walked around looking for an angle to shoot and try to limit the number of people in a shot. This is one of the shots I came up with framing the lighthouse in the lush trees. I’m so ready for spring time the cold dreary weather has hampered my photography lately and it’s getting a little frustrating. So here’s to warm weather!!!

Cold Day At Wrightsville Beach

I had the chance to visit Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina last weekend just before the snow storm hit.  The temperatures were low and the wind was blowing pretty hard with gale force warnings up for the coast. These weather conditions didn’t stop me from venturing out and capturing a few shots in the limited time I had to spend doing some photography. I captured some pretty cool shots of some surfers and the Johnnie Mercer’s Fishing Pier, you can check out the pier shots here http://www.nfirebaughphoto.com/ I guess these surfers love surfing as much as I love photography braving the elements of nature to catch the perfect wave or in my case looking for that perfect shot.
