Canon 6D Review

I’ve had this camera since it’s release which has been a little over a year now, so I thought why haven’t I written a review about it yet… So here it goes.

Things I Like

Full Frame Sensor

Switching from the crop sensor to a full frame 20.2mp sensor for landscape photography was a no brainer. The amount of detail the full frame sensor captures in the daytime or at night is hands down far better than the crop sensor cameras I had been shooting with.  This alone I believe has allowed me to take my photography to a whole new level.

Camera Size

The feel of the camera is pretty comparable to the Canon 60D I use as a backup, not too bulky and is easy to handle.  I’ve shot just about everything with this camera from sports to landscapes and haven’t been disappointed yet.

Durability

Weather resistant and can take a small tumble! Yes I’ve dropped mine actually it fell over while on the tripod into the ocean (good thing the waves were on the way out) I shipped it off to Canon Professional Services and they replaced the focus screen and it was good as new again. Actually the camera was still working fine other than a few specks I could see when looking through the viewfinder.

Things I Dislike

GPS Power

I have no idea why Canon made the GPS drain your battery when you have the camera turned off. This is as easy fix just disable the GPS in the menu but if you’re like me and wanted to use all the bells and whistles on your new camera you’d turn it on. Only to pick your camera up a few days later to shoot and wonder why you only have half a battery left.

Lenses I Most Use

Without a doubt the 17-40mm F4L is the most used lens I own for my landscape photography.

For sports and wildlife I tend to use the 70-200mm F4L while shooting mainly in aperture priority mode. Another great thing about the 6D is less noise at higher ISO which means I can shoot at a much higher ISO to get my shutter speed fast enough to catch those action shots with a small amount of noise that’s very easy to clean up in Lightroom.
